GETTING THERE
Air, sea or land - these are the three basic ways to get to, and around Alaska. Most fly into the The Land of the Midnight Sun, others come by cruise line or state ferry ( Alaska Marine Highway System ), some by rail, and a few arrive by highway.
Valdez Airport, also known as Pioneer Field, is three miles east of downtown Valdez and offers connections with Anchorage.
Valdez is part of the Southcentral Alaska routing of the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system. The route includes Homer, Seldovia, Seward, Whittier (for Anchorage), Tatitlek and Cordova. Walk-on reservations are almost never needed for the Alaska Marine Highway, but those requiring a private cabin or needing to book a vehicle should call ahead of time.
By car, Alaska’s first highway, the 368 mile Richardson Highway (Alaska Route 4 and 2) connects Valdez with Fairbanks.
