GETTING THERE
Air, sea or land - these are the three basic ways to get to, and around Alaska. Most fly into the The Land of the Midnight Sun, others come by cruise line or state ferry ( Alaska Marine Highway System ), some by rail, and a few arrive by highway.
Although Seward does have a small airport, the majority of visitors reach Seward by car, bus line, cruise ship or via the Alaska Railroad.
Seward is part of the Southcentral Alaska routing of the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system. The route includes Homer, Seldovia, Whittier (for Anchorage), Valdez, Tatitlek and Cordova. Walk-on reservations are almost never needed for the Alaska Marine Highway, but those requiring a private cabin or needing to book a vehicle should call ahead of time.
Seward is also a popular cruise line start and end point after which most passengers have the choice of a 4-hour scenic train ride to Anchorage, or a 2 hour bus ride instead.
By car, the 127 mile Seward Highway (Alaska Route 1 and 9) connects Seward with Anchorage.
By train, the Alaska Railroad plies the route between Seward in the Gulf of Alaska to Fairbanks and offers stops along the way including Anchorage, Wasilla and Denali National Park.
