GETTING THERE
Air, sea or land - these are the three basic ways to get to, and around Alaska. Most fly into the The Land of the Midnight Sun, others come by cruise line or state ferry ( Alaska Marine Highway System ), some by rail, and a few arrive by highway.
From Nome Airport, a mere two miles west of the town centre, Bering Air offers connections to Anadyr and Provideniya in Russia, and along with Alaska Airlines, many Alaskan destinations such as Kotzebue, Savoonga, Shishmaref and Gambell.
It is not possible to drive to Nome, but Alaska Airlines offers a year-round, 75 minute daily service between Nome and Anchorage. ONce in Nome, there are 300 miles of well-maintained, packed gravel roads winding through the backcountry to explore.
