GETTING THERE
Air, sea or land - these are the three basic ways to get to, and around Alaska. Most fly into the The Land of the Midnight Sun, others come by cruise line or state ferry ( Alaska Marine Highway System ), some by rail, and a few arrive by highway.
Served by Alaska Airlines, and connecting Ketchikan with Juneau, Seattle/Tacoma, Sitka, and Wrangell, Ketchikan International Airport is located on Gravina Island, a seven-minute ferry ride from downtown Ketchikan.
Ketchikan is part of the Southeast, Inside Passage routing of the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system from Bellingham in Washington State, USA. The route includes Wrangell, Petersburg, Juneau, Skagway and Haines, with connections to Hoonah, Pelican, Tenakee Springs, Sitka, Angoon, Kake, Hollis and Metlakatla. Walk-on reservations are almost never needed for the Alaska Marine Highway, but those requiring a private cabin or needing to book avehicle should call ahead of time.
Ketchikan is also one of the first Alaska ports of call for cruises in the Inside Passage.
By car, the Tongass Highway extends north and south of Ketchikan, but links to other highways are only via the state ferry system.
